2. Not to out myself and if you read this then iykyk, but I've been avoiding the real world news horrors by reading vintage wank on Fanlore. Guys, it's beautiful.

First: Barbara P. Gordon. She had beef with a lot of people! A lot of people had beef with her! Plus, people were mad she wrote kinky Kirk/Spock noncon slavefic fisting! Did you have beef with Barbara? If so, please tell me.

Second: 1978 Atlanta Schuster Star Trek_Convention: A Massive Fandom Rift

(I'll say it, though: that mid-2000s album produced by Ben Folds has my favorite version of "Common People". The Henry Rollins duet is also fun.) Also, everyone was already at the con when this was announced, it sounds like? So yeah, it really seemed like just a way to keep the autograph line as short as possible.

Anyway, a local news reporter asked a fan about the autograph situation and apparently the edited version came across like "a direct attack on Mr. Shatner — but it was not..."

Then [Carol F] entered the scene and proceeded to attack Rebecca verbally as well. The only way to describe the attack is to say it was an outpouring of hatred, hostility, and verbal acid. Among other things, Carol accused Rebecca of "washing dirty linen in public". ... to the extent that I finally spoke up and said: 'Oh, Carol, shut up!' Of course, that only made things worse.

Anyway, maybe my friends had a point when they recently said, "[Wembley], you love misery." I don't! I really don't! ...do I?

Third:

So I've been pretty open about these two pseuds being connected for a while now, but because I'm always thirsty for comments I might as well let you guys know that, off and on, I've been writing Orignal Works pornography as kuntar. Most of these involve:

• an arrogant, wealthy, evil and very slutty fop of a sorcerer who gets Whumped Intensely by Even Worse Dudes who make Archive Warnings Apply to him, heavily
• a kind, brawny paladin who begrudgingly saves his life a lot even though they're enemies and the sorcerer kind of ruined his life
• they smooch a lot

The most recent story (which I just finished finally editing, woooo!):

• Sweet Honey, Loathsome | 20k, Complete | M/M, Explicit | Vaunted, a kind paladin, opens his door to find that his longtime enemy, the evil wizard Wrathbyrne, has been stripped of his powers and placed under a curse: Wrathbyrne has to get fucked once a day or he dies.

Previous stories, all of which are standalones that each exist in their own little universes, slightly "canon"-divergent from one another:

• Lord Wrathbyrne's Highly Unpleasant Year | 72k, WIP | M/M, Explicit | An evil wizard gets non-conned by a bunch of other evil dudes and then rescued by Fake He-Man.
• Roadside Attractions | 5k, Complete | M/M, Explicit | A cartoonishly evil wizard and his heroic, good guy foe are handcuffed together in a sitcom predicament. Then they get dosed with sex pollen.
• Reformation | 13k, WIP | M/M, Explicit | The Good Council of Good has a soft-spoken death cleric attempt to rehabilitate the evil wizard and turn him into a good man. Obviously, this is just an excuse for whump and Archive Warnings To Apply to the evil wizard, who hopes local hero, Vaunted the nice paladin, will save him. Even though the nice paladin is the one who arrested him in the first place. Oops.

I have not posted in a fuckin' year! Lol so much for "I GOTTA START USING DREAMWIDTH AGAIN", whoopsie-doodle. I've just been having fun in CBS Ghosts fandom. Wow, my last post about an episode was S2? Guys, the show is in S4 now and it is so unhinged.

Also, re: CBS Ghosts, if you enjoy Old Timey Pairings and are okay with your ship not being Opposites Attract, Nisaac (Isaac/Nigel) might be up your alley? One's a pompous Revolutionary War soldier who accidentally shot and killed his crush, an also-pompous British soldier. They have had their ups and downs. Both are into polite decorum yet are also both catty bitches. Isaac is cowardly and selfish but is trying to be less so. He's also very horny and very repressed. Nigel seems equally repressed and comes off as less horny, but in fact is a secret slut. It's interesting, it's definitely not the dynamic that seems to bring the m/m shippers out in droves (I'm a basic Bert/Ernie bitch myself), but I would be remiss if I didn't try to waft it in front of you guys and see if the scent provokes a ripple of interest.

Also, if you are a lot like me and are like, "A sitcom that's popular with my coworkers who like Young Sheldon and Yellowstone? Gross!" I would say... don't be like me and give it a try because it's surprisingly dirty and the humor is broad but clever. We definitely have WWDITS-likers in our fandom, so it's not an either/or thing, taste-wise.

I keep lamenting the death of feminist blogs but not really doing anything about it. I think people posting AND having discussions about what was posted is cool. Substacks have sort of replaced them, ish, but obviously that platform has huge, huge problems. They do have comment sections, but...

Is there a community here on DW where people discuss this stuff? Search didn't find me anything with actual posts in it. Should I bite the bullet and create a forum? If so, is there a free forum people like? That said, I am the laziest most inattentive mod ever and this is a topic that causes so many fights (see: why feminist bloggers eventually gave up, because the comment sections were vital, and also fucking exhausting, lol).

I'm just thinking about how the idea of enthusiastic consent came, iirc, from the blogosphere, obviously building on ideas formed from books (and probably consciousness raising circles?) from the second wave, and if we don't have people coming up with ideas and hashing them out, the future won't be as good.

Sorry to act entitled over a non-serious issue, but it has to be said: being made to wait 2-3 years between seasons of television that are 8-10 episodes long is inexcusable and unsustainable. Just total corporate dissonance with regard to what people like about watching TV shows.

Except here's the thing. At least in sff fandom nerd land, where I live, folks were creaming their jeans over serialization for the entire 90s & early '00s. Including me! DS9 was "better & more mature" because serialized. Same for B5. British shows were touted as better because they had fewer episodes -- quality over quantity. We heard this CONSTANTLY. This was the prevailing opinion. I don't remember a lot of discourse about filler episodes around this time (though I feel like I would hear anime fans talk about it?), but tv nerds like me were absolutely & understandably reacting to the pre-Buffy 1950s-80s model where characters simply did not remember what happened the episode before. Miles O'Brien gets brutally tortured? Next ep, he's fine. No emotional continuity, perpetual amnesia. It felt weird! That's not how humans work! It made sense for fans to want something else, for wanting the medium to evolve. And it did! Also, the purely episodic time gave us clip shows & that sucks*. On the plus side, it gave tv big writers rooms because 3 people can't possibly come up with 24 goddamn stories quickly, that's an insane amount of story.

BUT those insanely long episodic seasons, as folks like JMS have pointed out, let us get to know these characters for longer. (Also, less & shorter ad breaks gave us teasers & tags that were purely character-driven. I loved those.) But we can't pretend that the model we've had for the past decade isn't something we all LOUDLY CLAMORED FOR for the *previous* decade. Netflix gave us what we asked for, and gave it to us good and hard, and now we're realizing that, as usual in the US, we have swung wildly between extremes instead of just sensibly moderating. (The Buffy model is A+.)



*except for the Dinosuars clip shows. Those were very good.

 So I see some folks on social media talking about how it sucks being called a tankie when they're not tankies and how it's hurtful and I'm just thinking, "Kind of like how it sucks to be called a shitlib? Or a neoliberal when you're just a regular liberal and not a fan of right-wing economics in any way?" And it's just... wow, maybe we could actually stop being shitty to each other? Especially since, at least in the US, we are on the same side and generally want the same things?

Then again, if people didn't fight about stupid shit on social media, I wouldn't be on it, so. /o\

i earnestly love and admire that, in this particular political moment, Riverdale chose to bump up Kevin's screentime and focus on his new boyfriend, as well as continue to focus on Toni/Cheryl, and to show them kissing as much as possible. It's important and cool.

i know most people have probably abandoned this show (idky, it's always a batshit delight) but it's still cool that the writing team did this (maybe more cool)

did two characters living IN the 1950s just say, "you've really captured what it's like to be in a queer interracial relationship in the 1950s"? ...yes

did a young man in the 1950s just say the words "my mental health"? ...yes

which. lol. but, i mean, it's not a documentary, it's a show for teens in 2023, so fuck it

so synecdochic is Good, Actually, everything she said is good, it's actually fine and good that she called out Stitch for operating like she got her political education at sfd and hms_anon back in the day (aka super toxic environments), the OTW... hoo boy, there are people I have long admired that I've followed for years that are in the OTW and I hope they're not part of the processes that traumatized volunteers like Azarias, it sounds like the entire org needs to be remade from the ground up, I fear for AO3 because it's incredibly useful, racism in fandom really sucks and fucks over fans of color that just want a fucking break and to enjoy fandom in peace, racist harassment is something one can do things about, racist trollfic is something one can do things about, fanfic that was not consciously written to be bigoted but has bigoted stuff in it but it's subjective and not everyone (even those whose ox is being gored) can agree on whether or not it's *ist is not really something one can do something about [in a moderating capacity] or at the very least if you want an archive like that you're gonna have to build a brand new one from the ground up and it's going to have to operate very very differently and if you want to do that more power to you, all of this is true at the same time, the end.
