we're all going to the world's fair (2021)
Apr. 6th, 2024 01:14 pmFinally saw this!
spoilers for we're all going to the world's fair (2021)
It's very clear immediately that this is gonna be a slow, very indie movie that refuses to hold your hand, but I think because of that, I was immediately over-analyzing it to the point that I read the movie entirely wrong. I assumed with each video that Casey was consciously performing and that it was all fake and that eventually the other shoe would drop... but then the climax hits and we're clearly meant to take from this that she thought it was all real. Which means... was she actually losing control of her body during "Love In Winter"? Or when she destroys the stuffed animal? I realize that's probably beside the point and this is all supposed to feel kind of more vibes-y and dream/nightmare-ish. I think the shifting tension with the guy on the other end (is he a sexual predator? an emotional predator? both? neither?), as well as the tension regarding Casey's father was well done. The trans subtext is really interesting, after reading interviews with the director. Anyone else see this?
