I'm about to be a dick. Also, giant spoilers for Good Omens S2.

Non-dickishly and earnestly, I am really impressed and heartened by how GO fandom has worked hard to keep the giant spoiler off Twitter and to discourage other fans from posting it.

That said... I kind of think that the content of the spoiler is part of why people are being so great about it, right? [SPOILER WARNING]

Basically... if the spoiler had made fans unhappy instead of happy... just based on being in fandom for 20+ years... I just feel like everything would be on fire and we'd be seeing reams and reams of discourse, not only about the spoiler itself, but... like, for example. Say the spoiler was Crowley kissing a cis het woman. We'd be seeing "don't share the spoiler, Neil is upset that it got leaked" vs "no, I'm allowed to complain about queer-baiting and heteronormativity". At least, I find that very, very plausible.

I mean, I do realize "yes, if things were different then things would be different" but... I mean... *gestures to decades of wank*

That said, I could be totally wrong and there could be counter-examples of fans being great about keeping mum about a leak that actively pissed them off.

Yeah, I don't think you're wrong there. I've mostly seen this happen with video games, so a different loud audience, but in general people just don't talk as much about upcoming things they like as they do about things they don't like, and a fandom like GO in particular, I think they went "well I'm spoiled but I want my friends to see this unspoiled and get that moment of squee," which wouldn't have applied to something they hate. I do think the majority of people in the fandom would still have kept mum or at least warned for spoilers in their posts, but there'd definitely be an annoying, inescapable minority yelling into the abyss.
