Guardians of the Galaxy 3 trailer

wembleyGUARDIANS! OF THE GALAXY! 3! TRAILER!
Here it is!
So a lot of times I fool myself into thinking I can separate myself from my intense fannish feelings and put myself in the shoes of the writing team and have some perspective but guess what, that's a total lie. I'm so stoked for this movie and also so afraid that it's going to bum me out and that I'm going to have to trick myself into believing it's not canon! I mean, I've done it before, but! But!
Loki fans: THIS OTHER LOKI ISN'T THE SAME
Me: Oh my God, he's totally the same, why are you guys freaking out.
Also me: THIS GAMORA ISN'T THE SAME
The GOTG movies are absolutely my favorite of the MCU, they're the characters I care the most about, especially Peter Quill. Quill/Gamora is one of the few het ships I've ever shipped. I love all the characters, I love the tone, the vibe. (I will say I like the first movie a little more than the second, because I feel like Gunn's Looney Tunes comedic sadism comes out a little more in the sequel and I'm not into that. I love the Ego plot, though.)
Between that, and the few minutes of and spoilers I saw of Gunn's The Suicide Squad, I think characters are gonna die. The trailer definitely makes it seem like Rocket's gonna die. Nooooooo!
Then I listened to a podcast where they speculated that because the trailer makes it seem like Rocket's going to die, that actually Drax will die!
And I'm realizing things about myself that I never knew before, because I realized (DISRUPTIVE & PROVOCATIVE OPINION INCOMING) that if someone in the OG team had to die, I'd be okay if it was Drax because Drax gets on my nerves a bit and I HATE SAYING THAT OR EVEN ADMITTING THAT, Dave Bautista is excellent as that character, he's very funny, aaaah I don't want to know this about myself! He's just... you never get that heartwarming moment with Drax, you know? You never get something to balance out him calling Mantis ugly (her feeling his tears only kinda makes it worse to me?) or any of the other comedically "he doesn't mean it as mean but it's mean" things he says and I just idk want something to balance it out a little. I guess him calling them family? I need a little more, I'm a sap.
If anyone else was saying this, I would be like, "Why does this person not understand comedy." At the same time, like, the first GOTG is a very sentimental movie as much as it's a funny movie, I'm not crazy.
I also am realizing that there's a part of me that really wants Peter to get like a moment of joy that isn't immediately undercut comedically and wow, jeez, I really am That Person. And if someone else was accusing me of being That Person, I would be like, "BEING CRINGE IS GOOD, BEING EARNEST AND SENTIMENTAL IS GOOD!" and then the rest of the time I'm a sarcastic dick. I just. Who am I. I contain multitudes? Of dickishness?
Very curious about Adam Warlock. Apparently he was a big presence in the original GOTG2 script and got cut for time. Wish that would get leaked.
I don't think we're gonna be looking for Gamora in the Soul Stone like everyone speculated post-Infinity War and if not, that's a bummer. The end of that romance worked fine for me within that movie, but as an end to that plot thread for the actual GOTG movies, it feels just... randomly cut short. Which it... was, lol. Although apparently the Russos talked to Gunn about it beforehand (according to this podcast interview I recently listened to) and he said it would work fine with his plans, so... ???? Maybe he always intended to subvert expectations with that relationship, I could see that.
Although I feel like friends told me there's a big comics connection to Adam Warlock and the Soul Stone? A friend was like, "Yeah, everybody's lived in there for a few months." Just couch surfin'.
Oh, also: That Spacehog song is one of my favorite songs from the 1990s. I remember taping it off the radio. Cool to see people get introduced to it for the first time. *crumbles into skeleton dust*
