Spoilers for both the episodes and some stuff I saw on the internet that could potentially spoil upcoming episodes:
- Keeping in mind that I haven't read the comics this is based on:
So I wasn't trying to get spoiled but I semi-accidentally saw little bits here and there on the internet that imply that Marc is the primary personality and Steven Grant is an alter, which is sort of a bummer for me, because I really like Steven a lot. (Metafilter is very at odds with me on this!) That said, as a writer, I can see that opening the series in the POV of the alter is much more dramatically interesting. It takes the "if you don't know which POV to write in, choose the one that knows the least" to the extreme. It's very effective.
But I do like Steven a lot (and I loved his take on what the internet tells me is "Mr. Knight"), it was so great!
- Ethan Hawke is great, of course. Maybe he should have confirmed the whole baby-killing thing? Although I guess not denying it is enough? Idk?
- I'm assuming from Marc Spector's name that he's Jewish, and then someone on MeFi confirmed it, so that's cool!
- I wonder if other alters will appear? I've seen one mentioned when glancing around the internet (it is so hard not to get spoiled when it's something based on a previously existing thing)). Maybe there will be more?
- In a better world this show would probably have two Egyptian leads (although maybe having an Egyptian character be a maniac obsessed with an ancient Egyptian god would seem weirder/more racist than having a white guy do it?), but at least there's an Egyptian director as well as some other people on the creative team.
- In a worse world, I'd love to see the 1990s syndicated version of this show where every episode, Marc, in Steven's mind, is the Al to Steven's Sam Beckett, coaching him on how to use his Moon Knight powers against baddies of the week, with the mythology barely appearing and confusingly explained.
- Konshu looked kind of amazing at some points and kind of dumb in others but F. Murray Abraham is doing great as the voice. His dynamic with Marc could easily spawn a whole lot of dirtybadwrong fic that I personally have no interest in reading but if it turns your crank, go for it, baby.
- I have no idea where this show is going and I love that.
