I've said this before, and then I recently heard Chris Hayes say the same thing on Adam Conover's Factually! podcast:
We have two parties, like it or not. We're not a parliamentary system, unless we work really really really x1000 hard to change it into one. We're first past the post. That means our "third" (and fourth, and fifth) "parties," such as they are, are unnamed and exist within the Republican and Democratic parties.
And our system fundamentally does not work if we have to live in existential fucking terror of one of those parties ever winning.
It's not realistic for us to say, "Well, Democrats just have to win forever." It's just not!
How do we de-crazify the Republican party? Seriously. How do we do this? Because this is not tenable.
Note: I battle mental illness and will not stop using the word "crazy" as sometimes-pejorative slang, just FYI, please and thanks.
